A TRAINING ON THE PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF REFUGEES AND MIGRANTS WAS HELD

training, which had been planned to be provided within the framework of the Protection of the Rights of Refugees and Migrants in Turkey Project, was held.

The meeting held in Ankara on July 6, 2018 started with the opening speeches of Mr. Michael İNGLEDOW, Head of Ankara Program Office of the Council of Europe and Mrs. Gizem GÖZALICI, Deputy Head of Migration Policies and Projects Department.

At the meeting, Mrs. Seran KARATARI KOSTU, Senior Project Manager of HELP Unit and a judge, made presentation on HELP Methodology and HELP e-training courses, as well as Mr. Flip SCHULLER, migration and asylum seeker judge and member of HELP / UNHCR Asylum and ECHR course working group, made presentation on the protection of refugees and migrants within the European Convention on Human Rights.
 
The situation of the refugees was evaluated by Prof. Dr. Neva ÖVÜNÇ ÖZTÜRK from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University, in the light of ECHR decisions and by Dr. A. Elif ULUSU KARATAŞ from Faculty of Law at İstanbul University within the scope of International Private and Civil Procedure Law No. 5718. Furthermore, Mrs. Gamze Gül ÇAKIR KILIÇ, lawyer of Directorate General and HELP national trainer, introduced the work conducted for the adaptation to the national legislation on the pages reserved for the course and clarified the duties of participants in the training process.

In the training aimed at strengthening the capacities of DGMM personnel for better understanding of the rights of asylum seekers and generally foreigners, it is aimed to train a staff of 136 persons consisting of lawyers and experts in the central and provincial units at first step and 300 DGMM personnel in total.
