Minister Soylu was born in Istanbul on November 21st, 1969. After completing Plevne High School, he continued his higher education at Karadeniz Technical University and graduated from Business Administration Faculty of Istanbul University.

Minister Soylu began his political career in 1987 at Istanbul Youth Branch of the True Path Party (DYP).  In 1995, he was elected as the Gaziosmanpaşa District Head of the party.  

He announced his candidacy for the mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality in 1999. He served as Istanbul Provincial Head of the DYP between 1999-2002.

Minister Soylu was elected as General Chair of the Democratic Party on January 6th, 2008.

His term as General Chair was ended on May 16th, 2009 at the Congress, gathered upon his own request.

During the process for the referendum on September 12th, 2010, he organized a series of seminars under the title of “Democracy Meetings” and travelled around the country In order to explain why “yes” vote is important for the future of Turkey.

Minister Soylu joined Justice and Development Party (AK Party) on September 5th, 2012. After acting as Deputy Chairman in charge of Research and Development, he was appointed as the Deputy Chairman responsible for Party Organization on April 15th, 2014.

Minister Soylu was elected as AK Party deputy from Trabzon at General Parliamentary Elections held on June 7th, and November 1st, 2015.

Minister Soylu served as the Minister of Labour and Social Security between November 24th, 2015 and September 1st, 2016.

 
Minister Soylu is married and has a daughter and a son.
