DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF MIGRATION MANAGEMENT CONTINUED TO RECEIVE THE MESKHETIAN TURKS WITH OPEN ARMS

Within the framework of Resettlement Law and Council of Ministers’ decision numbered 7668 and dated 2015, the process of placing Meskhetian Turks in Turkey by Directorate General of Migration Management because of the internal disorder in Ukraine continued with further 175 Meskhetian Turks.

117 Meskhetian Turks (45 families), who were brought to Muş Airport on 01.06.2016 via a chartered airplane belonging to Turkish Airlines, were placed to Ahlat, the district of Bitlis province. Along with the group comprised of 117 Meskhetian Turks, 58 Meskhetian Turks (18 families) who had resided temporarily in Bursa were also brought to Ahlat via buses and process of placing them were conducted.

The personnel of Directorate General of Migration Management who went to Ukraine with the aims of coordinating the acts and procedures of placing Meskhetian Turks in Turkey and of informing Meskhetian Turks who were in the scope of resettlement about the process, conducted meetings in the cities of Poltova and Harkov. After the questions of the Meskhetian Turks were answered, the atmosphere where the sorrow of saying goodbye prevailed at the beginning of the travel towards Turkey was replaced with a joy in Muş Airport.

The Meskhetian Turks were welcomed at the airport by Mr. Ali SAKAR, Deputy Governor of Muş; Mr. Kamil GÜZEL, Deputy Governor of Bitlis; Mr. Bülent TEKBIYIKOĞLU, District Governor of Ahlat and Mr. Salih BIÇAK, Deputy Director General of Migration Management.


After the dinner given following the greeting, the Meskhetian Turks, who were checked into a hotel, were taken to Ahlat, the district of Bitlis province on 02.06.2016.  With a ceremony conducted with the participation of Mr. Ahmet ÇINAR, Governor of Bitlis, the process of placing Meskhetian Turks in TOKI (Housing Development Administration of Turkey) houses where they would reside was carried out. At the ceremony, MUYU (the name of a child character) packs for kids, which were created in order to facilitate the harmonization of children were distributed by the personnel of Directorate General of Migration Management who stood ready during the ceremony.
With the placement of the fourth group in Ahlat, the number of the Meskhetian Turks who were brought to Turkey reached up to 1299.
