GLOBAL FORUM ON MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT (GFMD) TOOK PLACE IN ISTANBUL

Director General Mr. Atilla Toros, Deputy Director General Mr. Dr. Ahmet Apan and Head of the Migration Policies and Projects Department Mr. Abdullah Ayaz attended the 8th Summit Meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), which has been chaired by Turkey since 1 July 2014, in Istanbul on 14-16 October.

Prime Minister Mr. Ahmet Davutuoğlu made the opening speech of the summit, which brought together representatives of international organizations and NGOs from nearly 150 countries.

After the opening speech, Prime Minister Mr. Davutoğlu, Minister of Interior Selami Altınok and Istanbul Governor Mr. Vasip Sahin visited the Directorate General of Migration Management booth and got information about the activities of the Directorate General and had a photo taken.
High level officials such as UN Deputy Secretary General Jeffrey Feltman, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres and Director General of IOM William Lacy Swing participated at the summit meeting. During these three days, meetings on migration and development were held, ideas were exchanged and experiences were shared.
 
On the first day of the summit Mr. Atilla Toros and Mr. Dr. Ahmet Apan made a presentation at the side event with the title “Turkey’s Migration Experience and New Migration Management Approach” and explained Turkey’s migration experience throughout the history and new migration management model.
