HARMONIZATION AND COMMUNICATION MEETING HELD FOR PROVINCIAL ASSISTANT MIGRATION EXPERTS

“Harmonization and Communication Meeting for Provincial Assistant Migration Experts was held by the Department of Harmonization and Communications of Directorate General of Migration Management in Ankara Gölbaşı Provincial Hall. Provincial Assistant Migration Experts from 81 Provincial Directorates attended to the meeting as communication coordination experts.

“Foreigner Perception from the Point of Public Opinion and Media”, “Harmonization from the Perspective of International Organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations” and “The Harmonization Perspective of the Department of Harmonization and Communications of Directorate General of Migration Management” issues were held in the meeting within three sessions.

As speakers, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saime ÖZÇÜRMEZ, Lecturer of Bilkent University Faculty of Economic Administrative Sciences Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ülkü DOĞANAY, Lecturer of Ankara University Faculty of Communication, Meral AÇIKGÖZ, Project Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration, İbrahim Vurgun KAVLAK, General Coordinator of the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Immigrants, assistant experts from the Department of Harmonization and Communications of General Directorate of Migration Management participated in the meeting which began with the opening speeches of Atilla TOROS, Director General of the Directorate General of Migration Management, and Atay USLU, Head of the Department of Harmonization and Communications of the Directorate General for Migration Management.

Atilla TOROS, Director General, stated the significant role of Turkey in the world as hospitable and charitable country; that they are trying to establish a migration system, and they have covered a great distance in this regard. He remarked that “I am proud of my country, since we haven’t closed our doors to the people escaping from oppression”, saying that Turkey accepted the number of immigrants that was accepted by Continental Europe in 2-3 days.

During his speech, Mr. Atay USLU also, the Head of Harmonization and Communications Department of the Directorate General of Migration Management emphasised that they do not define adaptation as assimilation, integration or neo-integration but as harmonization. He highlighted that harmonization is rights-based, merciful, humanitarian, mutual, individual and in everybody’s interest. Moreover, he added that harmonization embraces communal, historical, conventional reflexes and also that it renders migration as not a burden but a tool for contribution. He defined the harmonization as a new road feeding rationale based principles by heart based principles, having love based values as much as numeric values and away from the violated and frayed terms. In his speech, he also pointed shaping the foreigner’s perception of community and community’s perception of foreigner with the correct communication by stressing the importance of accurate perception in every work carried out. In the third section of the meeting, Mrs. Sevda YILMAZ, Assistant Expert from the Department of Harmonization and Communications of the Directorate General of Migration Management, informed the participants about the corporate identity studies of the Directorate General of Migration Management; Mrs. Tuğba ÇİMŞİR, Assistant Expert, about Communication Centre for Foreigners (YİMER) planned to be founded within the Directorate General; Mr. Ercan KÖMLEKSİZ, Assistant Expert, about the media monitoring activities of the body; Mr. Ekrem DEMİR, Assistant Expert, about the harmonization activities performed by the Department of Harmonization and Communications; Mrs. Beste BOYAR, Assistant Expert, about the visits made to the related unites of Germany and Austria in order to investigate the integration studies on site.

The meeting was ended after the assessment section.
