INTERNATIONAL MIGRANTS DAY WAS CELEBRATED

In the event that was organized by Vali Galip Demirel Vilayetler Evi; Mr. Sebahattin ÖZTÜRK, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior, senior executives of public institutions and organizations, ambassadors and foreign nationals with different legal status in our country participated. The event started with a moment of silence to memory of all our martyrs and reading of the Turkish National Anthem.

In his speech, Mr. Sebahattin ÖZTÜRK, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior stated that he condemned the terrorist attack carried out for Russian Ambassador and the terrorist attacks carried out in İstanbul and Kayseri and he expressed his wish for God’s mercy to all our martyrs. Continuing to speak, Mr. Sebahattin OZTURK stated that we are in the position of being the country that hosts the highest number of migrants in the world today as the manifestation of our culture, our faith, our respect for human dignity, and a millennial compassion society and he stated that many services were provided with the aim of meeting the needs of migrants and being an hope for the desperate ones, and that they will continue to provide.

He indicated that in the days when the whole world closed its eyes and ignored the events that were happening, we opened our doors for our Syrian brothers and sisters and made necessary efforts to make them feel comfortable by providing them with access to basic rights such as health, education and access to labor market by granting them temporary protection. After his speech, Mr. Sebahattin ÖZTÜRK, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Interior, presented the Qur'an and Turkish Flag to Mehmet Ali KIRBAÇ, the father of Kadir KIRBAÇ who was the personnel of Adana Provincial Directorate of Migration Management and was martyred in the traitorous terrorist attack in Adana.

As for Mr. Atilla TOROS, Director General of Migration Management, he also condemned the terrorist attack carried out for Russian Ambassador and the terrorist attacks carried out in İstanbul and Kayseri and he expressed his wish for God’s mercy to all our martyrs. Moreover, Mr. Atilla TOROS stated that despite the fact that Turkey was the most affected country in the world that had witnessed the greatest influx of migrants after the Second World War, Turkey did not reject anyone who took refuge and wanted to live in its borders, and extended its mercy.

After stating that over 3 million migrants and refugees in our country are not just numbers and that they all have separate stories, he said that they have been trying to bring convenience to the lives of more than 3 million people since 11 April 2013, the date of establishment of the Directorate General of Migration Management. Furthermore, he stated that as the General Directorate of Migration Management, they took steps to protect the rights of migrants and refugees in our country and to respond to their needs as well as to enable them to harmonize to our country, within this scope they prepared the Harmonization Strategy Document and the National Action Plan within the framework of strategic priority areas in order to support Turkey's political, historical and socio-economic conditions and its policy making in coherence with its current situation.


After the speeches ended, within the framework of International Migrants Day, the demonstration of sand art in which the internal turmoil in Syria, arising humanitarian crisis and then Turkey's acceptance of Syrian asylum seekers were described, a video presentation in which the Meskhetian Turks, who were resettled to our country following the instructions of the President of the Republic of Turkey and Decision of the Council of Ministers in coordination of the Directorate General of Migration Management, explained their emotions and a short film about Muyu’s Story were performed. The event continued with the presentation of 1 Millionth residence card to the right owner on stage, the presentation of Muyu Sets to the children, which were prepared by the Directorate General of Migration Management, the presentation of certificates to the trainees attending language and vocational training course organized in cooperation with the Directorate General of Migration Management and Directorate General for Lifelong Learning and the presentation of the battery-operated wheelchairs to the migrants in need.
The event ended after visiting the booths of Governorships, Turkish Learning Centers of Universities, International Organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations and visiting the exhibition consisting of paintings created by elementary and secondary school students within the scope of Migration and Migrant-Based Muyu Painting Competition.
