SYMPOSIUM ON FOREIGNERS COMING TO TURKEY IN A MASS INFLUX HELD

Symposium on “Foreigners coming to Turkey in a Mass Influx” organized by Directorate General of Migration Management International Protection Department in Ankara Vali Galip Demirel Vilayetler Evi on 2 September 2014 was held with participation of deputy governors of 81 provinces, representatives from Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, Turkish National Police, Gendarmerie General Command and Turkish Coast Guard Command.
Opening speeches of the symposium were given by Director General of Migration Management Atilla TOROS, Director General of Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency Dr. Fuat OKTAY and Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Seyfullah HACIMÜFTÜOĞLU.
Director General of Migration Management Atilla TOROS gave brief information about legislation on international protection and temporary protection and work field of Directorate General of Migration Management. Additionally he made statements on migration influx caused by foreigners who have been forced to leave their countries and cannot return to the country that they have left and have arrived at or crossed the borders of Turkey in a mass influx situation seeking immediate and temporary protection.
Atilla TOROS mentioned the administrative procedures to be implemented to Syrian and Iraqi foreigners who have come to Turkey in a mass influx to benefit from international protection and emphasized public order and safety and the importance of fulfilling registration procedures as soon as possible for the aforementioned foreigners in terms of accessing services.
In his speech, Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Seyfullah HACIMÜFTÜOĞLU underlined the fact that also Turkish people left the geography they lived in for various reasons and stated that he understood the problems that migrants encountered very well. Seyfullah HACIMÜFTÜOĞLU also stated that Turkey embraces migrant foreigners compassionately and Directorate General of Migration Management manages migration with the same sensitivity.
Seyfullah HACIMÜFTÜOĞLU also added that Turkey has spent nearly 3.5 million dollars regarding the foreigners who have come as a result of mass influx and aids from European countries are very small compared to Turkish aids. Lastly pointed the importance of governorates in acts and actions regarding the foreigners who have come to Turkey in mass.
On the Symposium presentations were given on foreigners who have come to Turkey in a mass influx by Directorate General of Migration Management, Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, Turkish National Police and Gendarmerie General Command officials and it was stated that by the end of 2014 August 807 thousand 869 Syrian foreigners’ biometric registration was carried out.
At the last session of the symposium deputy governors mentioned problems regarding the foreign nationals in their own provinces and solution suggestions to these problems were discussed.
