VISIT OF OUR DIRECTORATE GENERAL TO BRUSSELS

Mr. Abdullah AYAZ, our Director General and Mrs. Gülbahar EL NASHARTY, Head of Foreign Relations Department, participated in the program titled "Integration of Migrants to Labor Markets - Projects and Policies" organized at TOBB Brussels Representative Office
on 26 March 2019.
 
Speaking at the program, Mr. Abdullah Ayaz, our Director General, said: "A fair burden-sharing is needed so that our society and migrants can have a better future. Otherwise; Turkey, Europe or Greece may be faced with a new migration crisis in the future.”
Reminding that “Turkey is a country which hosts most migrants, Mr. Abdullah AYAZ, our Director General, said: "Currently, Turkey hosts 4.8 million foreigners with different status. Of these, more than 3 million 600 thousand are Syrians. In addition to this; there are migrants from Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Iran, and other countries, who applied for international protection and are under protection status.”
 
Mr. Abdullah AYAZ, our Director General, said that there are more than 900 thousand people who have residence permit in Turkey, and that they expect this figure to reach 1 million at the end of 2019.
 
Explaining that they made serious efforts for migrants from Syria and other countries, Mr. Abdullah AYAZ, our Director General, said: “We provide access to public utilities such as health and education for migrants. Moreover, we try to integrate them into labor market.”
 
Drawing attention to the fact that 2 million of Syrians in Turkey are in the working age, our Director General said: “It is not easy to integrate them into labor market.”
 
Emphasizing what happened in Syria was a humanitarian crisis, our Director General AYAZ assessed that: "A fair burden-sharing is needed so that our society and migrants can have a better future. Otherwise; Turkey, Europe or Greece may be faced with a new migration crisis in the future.”

Mr. Abdullah AYAZ, our Director General, added that for better migration management, the main reasons for migration should be focused in the source countries.
 
As for Mr. Mehmet Kemal BOZAY, Ambassador, Head of the Mission of the Republic of Turkey to the European Union, he said in his speech that “We opened our doors to 3 million 600 thousand people. It means that we saved 3 million 600 thousand lives.”


Remarking that it is necessary to focus on the works regarding the integration of migrants, Mr. BOZAY said: “So far, we granted 70 thousand Syrians with work permit and we are working to do more.”
 
In the program; EU institutions, representatives of various associations and non-governmental organizations participated.
