29th Reform Monitoring Group Meeting Held


The 29th meeting of the Reform Monitoring Group (RMG), which was established in 2003, was hosted by Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator, with the participation of Mr. Bekir Bozdağ, Minister of Justice, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Davutoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Efkan Ala, Minister of Interior.
 
The issues addressed in Operational Results, within the context of Chapter 24 on Justice, Freedom and Security, prepared and opened for debate by Political Affairs Department of Ministry for European Union Affairs were presented under the following topics and opened for debate:
 
Approving Readmission Agreement concluded between Turkey and EU,
Implementation of Readmission Agreement concluded between Turkey and EU,
 Benefiting from the financial instruments of EU, other than Instrument for Pre-accession Financial Assistance (IPA), with the aim of sharing the burden that will arise from fulfilling the requirements of the Road Map adopted within the scope of EU-Turkey visa liberalization dialogue. 

 
The necessity to use IPA resources, which is the financing resource required for the implementation of Readmission Agreement, for long-term projects, and to take action at senior levels at European Commission regarding desired EU funds for financing short-term EU funds.   
 
In addition, the requirement of considering Approving of Law on Prevention of Human Trafficking and Protecting of Victims and the Law on Border Security, which is closely related to the duty field of our Directorate General, as an operational result was also debated.
 
Efkan Ala, Minister of Interior said that the Directorate General for Migration Management is still working on realising the innovations laid down in Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, and the work on drafting Law on Prevention of Human Trafficking and Protecting of Victims. He also stated that the efforts by Directorate General for Migration Management are going on successfully and expressed his gratitude to Directorate General for Migration Management.

29th meeting of the Reform Monitoring Group is an important meeting in terms of its result where the efforts in Turkey towards EU process and the steps to be taken in EU Acquis harmonisation process have been addressed by the relevant ministers, and where considerable steps have been taken towards developing a roadmap for the management of EU process.
