WHAT IS GLOBAL FORUM ON MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT?

The idea regarding Global Forum On Migration and Development was put forward during “High-Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development” held in New York on 14-15 September 2006 under the organisation of United Nations, and appeared upon the idea of establishing a “global forum”, where these issues can be debated in depth and more systematically,  was generally adopted. In 2007, it became concrete once the GFMD working methods were approved in Brussels.
Mentioned forum is an unofficial process which is based on voluntary participation, taking non-binding decisions and encouraging the cooperation between the countries.  Though it is not directly under the organisation of the UN, it has close ties with the organisation, and the most comprehensive forum in this field. The reports regarding the forum meetings are presented to the members of United Nations through Secretary General.
