THE PROJECT ON PROTECTING OF VICTIMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING HAS BEEN INTRODUCED

Introduction of the project took place on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 in Ankara Hilton Hotel. The participants to the meeting were Deputy Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Mr Aziz Yıldırım, in particular, Directorate General of Migration Management, International Organization for Migration, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Family and Social Policy, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish National Police, Gendarmerie General Command, Coast Guard Command, Undersecretariat of Treasury Central Finance and Contracts Unit, Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, Human Resource Development Foundation, The Foundation for Women’s Solidarity and Family Consultants Association.

The Head of Migration Policy and Projects Department of Directorate General of Migration Management and also the project coordinator Raşit Zengin spoke in the ceremony and said ''Human trafficking is a serious crime that breaches the human rights''. Stating that international cooperation was a must in order to cope with that problem, Zengin stressed that 39 activities would be carried out within the scope of the project and co-beneficiary of the project Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Family and Social Policy, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Turkish National Police,  Coast Guard Command, Gendarmerie General Command, Human Resource Development Foundation, The Foundation for Women’s Solidarity and Family Consultants Association would make active contribution to the project.

The implication process of the aforesaid project has been planned as 24 months and its' main supporter is the Directorate General of Migration Management. Mr Zengin stated that implementer of the project was International Organization for Migration and that the total project finance was 1.9 million Euro and %90 would be supplied by the EU and %10 by national fund. Stating that project was initiated on 17 July, Mr Zengin expressed'' The overwhelming gain of the project is that the cooperation between the constitutions on the fight against human trafficking is to increase.''

Mr Aziz Yıldırım, Deputy Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior stated that the most typical characteristic of human trafficking was the breach of human rights in all aspects and laid emphasis on fight against human trafficking.

IOM Chief of Mission Meera Sethi, Deputy Chairman of Undersecretariat of Treasury Central Finance and Contracts Unit Emine Döğer, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the EU to Turkey Bela Szombati made speeches about the project.

Following the speakers' raise sensitivity about the importance of the project, the meeting was closed.
